Polymeric MDI MR200 prices dropped sharply in the Mumbai market today, slipping by Rs.4/kg the lowest level observed in the past six months. Ground-level discussions with traders and stockists indicate that the price correction is being driven by extremely sluggish booking activity, primarily because most downstream buyers are currently sitting on ample inventory. According to market sources, demand from key consumption sectors such as insulation foam, adhesives, and footwear midsole manufacturing has remained muted over the past few weeks. Many buyers had already built up stock anticipating a pickup in construction and cooling segments , but with actual demand still lagging, fresh procurement has slowed considerably. This has led suppliers and importers to offer discounts to push material into the market. Last six month market trend:- Looking at the price trend, Polymeric MDI had dropped from Rs.204/kg on 11th December to Rs.195/kg by 25th December. The price saw a temporary recovery to Rs.205/kg by early February, driven by a slight uptick in orders, but soon began its downward slide again. By 7th May, it had dropped to Rs.178/kg. Today declined by Rs.4/kg from Rs.178/kg to Rs.174/kg marks a new low, raising concerns over how soon market fundamentals will rebound. Traders expect prices to remain under pressure in the near term unless downstream demand picks up significantly.
