MDR stands for multidrug-resistant, and in the context of tuberculosis (TB), MDR-TB refers to strains of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria that are resistant to at least two of the most effective first-line anti-TB drugs, namely isoniazid and rifampicin.
