While it sounds like a positive move on the surface, some critics argue that it’s more branding than real impact. Zomato claims to be introducing electric bikes, sustainable packaging, and carbon-offset programs. But on-ground implementation is still inconsistent across cities. In tier-1 areas, you may find your order coming in biodegradable containers. In smaller cities, plastic and foil packaging still dominate. The real question is: Can fast food delivery ever be truly sustainable? With the rise in order volumes, packaging waste is becoming a serious problem. Moreover, short delivery timelines often override eco-conscious practices in favor of speed. Still, Zomato deserves credit for initiating the conversation. As user awareness grows, green delivery could become a competitive edge rather than a trend. To make real change, Zomato needs to back its promises with action—by incentivizing eco-conscious vendors, standardizing green packaging, and making sustainability a core metric in its platform. Until then, Zomato Green feels more like a marketing push than a revolution. But it’s a start—and a necessary one. | |
