The synthetic rubber market in Ahmedabad witnessed a slight price correction as Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Grade 1712 slipped by Rs.2 per kg, with the rate dropping from Rs.174 on August 19 to Rs.172 on August 20. This small decline comes at a time when downstream tire and footwear industries are showing cautious buying behavior, while feedstock styrene costs have also shown minor fluctuations. According to Indiapetrochem, the decrease reflects controlled procurement by buyers and balanced inventories maintained by processors in Ahmedabad, as demand signals remain steady but not aggressive. SBR Grade 1712 is an oil-extended variant of synthetic rubber, known for its good abrasion resistance, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness, making it highly popular in the automotive and industrial sectors. The grade is specifically used in the manufacturing of passenger car tires, conveyor belts, footwear soles, hoses, gaskets, adhesives, and several molded rubber goods. Experts quoted by Indiapetrochem emphasize that despite this minor dip in Ahmedabad, long-term fundamentals of the product remain strong since nearly 70% of SBR consumption globally is linked to the tire industry, and India’s rising automobile demand continues to support stable consumption. Additionally, demand for SBR 1712 is expected to grow further with infrastructure expansion and rising export orders for automotive components. Industry sources also state that price trends will remain closely tied to crude oil, butadiene, and styrene feedstock values in the coming weeks. Market observers cited by Indiapetrochem predict that while minor volatility may continue, SBR’s strong applications in both automotive and non-automotive sectors will ensure sustained demand.
