Why be afraid of marriage?
"Wedding anxiety" means feeling fear or anxiety at the thought of marriage or a permanent commitment to a life partner. It's not just curiosity or a little nervousness—it can be a form of anxiety, fear, confusion, or mental pressure about whether or not to take this step, and whether everything will be okay afterward. In some cases, this is called gamophobia—the fear of marriage/commuter commitment. Physical reactions such as anxiety, increased heart rate, palpitations, sweating, and shortness of breath at the thought of marriage. Insomnia or sleep disturbances, and distracted thoughts like "What if the wedding goes wrong?" or "What if I can't fulfill this role?", etc. Constant uncertainty about marriage, your life partner, and the future. Overthinking, making decisions difficult. Having high expectations of yourself and your partner that seem impossible. In some cases, fear and stress increase around the wedding day (pre-wedding period). ![]()
